Trial Advocacy
In Trial Advocacy, Mock Trial Academy students will learn about various aspects of trial advocacy and implement these techniques in small group sections as they prepare every aspect of a case for trial. Students will learn the principles and the finer points of each stage of a trial, including opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, closing arguments, objections, courtroom procedures and trial strategy.
Each Trial Advocacy student will be placed on a team. At the end of the conference, these teams will face each other in the final trials. The division of students into small group sections and teams will be based on the students' level of applicable experience, i.e. high school Mock Trial, debate, speech and so on.
Mock Trial Academy recommends this course for students who are spending their first summer at Mock Trial Academy.
Advanced Trial Advocacy
Advanced Trial Advocacy is a course that will build on what Mock Trial Academy alumni have already learned during their previous summers by focusing on more advanced and intricate areas of Trial Advocacy including advanced trial strategy, the impeachment and control of witnesses, the handling of substantive and demonstrative exhibits, and the application of complex rules of evidence and procedure.
Just as in Trial Advocacy, students will spend the duration of the conference working in teams to prepare a case for trial, The conference concludes when the students try a case in their final trials.
Mock Trial Academy recommends this course for students who have completed one or two prior Mock Trial Academy sessions.
